The Ticking Clock: A New Year Approaches

The ticking clock. The clock, which relegates our days and our nights, holds the magical power of changing one year into a New Year. A New Year is looming upon us…

One of the oldest human inventions, the clock has consistently measured intervals of time: the day, the lunar month and the year. The study of timekeeping is termed as “Horology” and the word “Clock” is said to have been derived from the Dutch, Northern French and Medieval Latin taken from the Celtic words “Clagan” and “Clocca”, meaning “Bell”. Who knew? Distinguished from other timepieces, a “clock” refers to any device used for measuring and displaying the time. In history, devices have been used over the millennia to keep time, culminating into the clocks we know today. It is the power of the hands of the clock to transform time into a New Year that our attention falls upon…

As an instrument used to indicate, keep and coordinate time, all eyes are on this instrument of regulated time. All eyes are upon its hands to watch its countdown to the New Year. As the hands move across its grand face, the minute arm in constant movement, a new year is at hand. A New Year approaches. As we embark upon another year, may all that has passed be embraced as life’s experiences. Whether sorrowful or joyful, the moments of time passed are what makes up the rich fabric of our lives. A passing of time at a constant rate and a passing of a year. Every day, every moment is a gift. Embrace life. Embrace the New Year.
