Additional history of this timeless shoe? The word “Oxford” is derived from the “Oxonian” boot (a half boot with side slits) which gained popularity at Oxford University in 1800. Of course there had to be a connection to the Ivy League school of esteem! Of interest, it was the side slit that would evolve into a side lace which would eventually travel to the instep.
