“One travels more usefully when alone, because he reflects more”
A year of “City Inspirations” from the great city by Lake Michigan. Chicago. As I ponder what I have gained from my January commitment to solo travel to the city of Chicago each month, I cannot help but think of the seasons and the city transformations that visually delighted me and earned the focus of my camera lens. The culmination of my experiences from each journey from behind the lens unfolded a visual recollection that was exciting to arrange in a compilation as well as to share…A year of “City Inspirations”. A year in Chicago. A year of appreciation and focus on the architectural details and changing fashionable window displays of iconic storefronts. Life, energy and style. The joy of a city.
All year long, each month, I have expounded on the ponderings and inspirations acquired through my walking journey woven through the Windy City post arriving by train. From scenes behind glass storefront windows to the architectural details gracing the facades of buildings of historical past of Chicago, if you have followed along, I hope that you have found inspiration to see a city differently. To see life differently. No matter where you reside, what city or cities you find yourself fortunate to be within or near, the appreciation of what surrounds you is paramount. Perhaps when we seek the striking architectural details or the changing world of fashion on visual display, life and each day becomes brighter. Perhaps we lose our cares and get caught up in the excitement and energy around us. The mass of life in a city that we can “lose” ourself within. Perhaps, one day out of the month, we owe to ourselves to regroup and “think”. Ponderings and inspirations. Perhaps, we gain clarity of the brevity of life. Alas, each day is a gift.
My year end wish for you is to pause and appreciate. Do not miss what surrounds. Woven through my monthly post of “City Inspirations” reiterates this mantra. Appreciation. And remember that in doing so, “What you focus on expands”. Appreciation expands. Quite a worthy concept, indeed. It is my hope that the snapshots of images of “City Inspirations” have provided you, too, with inspiration. Whether you have followed along each month, or you have only now stumbled upon, my intent is to encourage you to look around you. Look “Up”…
Beyond the visual grouped collection of months, for those that would prefer a closer look, a visual recap, month by month follows of my “City Inspirations” from the great city of Chicago…
Enjoy and be inspired by the great cities that surround you…with renewed appreciation!
