Snapshots. Perhaps the joy from behind the lens begins when your eyes seek inspiration from what is set before you. Random inspiration, but inspiration just the same. Capturing through the lens the image that your eyes see or wishes to frame through the lens. Thrilling. Photography itself is experimental. And when the subject is one of a city? Endless visuals of architecture, color and scenery that beckons the focus of the lens and the hands that manipulate the clicks of the camera’s shutter. Inspiration.
On a warm Summer day, venturing into the city of Chicago by car, we delved into the offerings of Chicago in the Summer. Our favorite spot? Oak Street Beach just off North Michigan Avenue. Validation of why Chicagoan’s and outside city dwellers reside in this Midwest state throughout the year. Chicago is an amazing city in the Summertime. The sand, massive Lake Michigan and the cityscape that surrounds is pure delight.
Of course, my appreciation for beautiful doorways endures. While walking to Oak Street Beach, my camera, pointed at the substantial doors on Elm Street in Chicago’s Gold Coast, continually yearns to focus on the structures of distinction. Of Note, the Gold Coast is the iconic Historic District near Lake Shore Drive and Michigan Avenue. The neighborhood grew in the wake of the Great Chicago Fire during the late 1880’s and would grow into one of the richest in Chicago. The Gold Coast remains a coveted part of Chicago for me. A city life, perfected. Appreciation of history, architecture and city dwelling for certain.
Consider the beauty of what surrounds. No matter the season, a city offers visual appeal. With a camera to “snap” images with, the world that surrounds becomes a canvas through the lens. Creating a snapshot of a journey, finding and appreciating details only adds to the appeal. Whether walking through the streets or viewing the city surrounds as a passenger in a car, the world that passes by us continually offers us visual gifts. Ours for seeking. For me? I seek it daily. Especially when immersed within the city that I adore. Chicago. Snapshots of visual appreciation, indeed.
