So… perhaps a swipe of lipstick is in order. It is a New Year. A new opportunity to pull ourselves together and move onward. Moving onward in a direction that we intend to travel.
At a recent holiday soirée, hosted by a dear friend and filled with bubbly and laughter, I was reminded of that. Thus, the image above. Indeed, fond of the swipe of lipstick, in a bold hue of vivid red, I am in complete agreement. It is a matter of us picking ourselves up and moving onward.
Found within the lyrics of the 1936 song “Pick Yourself Up” composed by Jerome Kern, written for the 1936 film Swing Time and introduced by Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, the words stand true today…
“Take a deep breath, pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start all over again”
As you begin a New Year, remember that the past is the past. The moment is all we have. What we hold in that moment. Seize the moment. And of the word that continues to ground me? Onward. “Moving toward the future or toward a more advanced state or condition”. Moving towards the future. Another year lies ahead. Full of possibilities. Full of opportunities. Yet no matter what may evolve or transpire on your journey, move forward with gratitude. With appreciation. Life is a gift. Every day is a gift. Move onward in that. For there is only one direction to travel. And that is onward.
“To finally move on and start something new, you must release the unchangeable past and embrace your future”
