January. And so it is. Nearing the end of the first month of the New Year that still holds the promise of new commitments. A New Year that still sparkles and shines with new beginnings. New opportunities. Life awaits. And it is a beautiful life. No matter what situation one may face, there is always something beautiful to focus upon. And so it is with the city streets of Chicago. Inspiration. And so it is, for me, behind the lens. The Streets and the windows of fashion. A continued monthly solo journey to capture fashion’s changing scene and simultaneously be inspired through the energy a city gives off. Truth be told, I traveled to Chicago by train a day after the blizzard of 2016 overtook the East Coast. Embarking upon the city streets of Chicago that lacked the grand snowfall that New York City faced was a reality I pondered. Having grown up on Long Island and enduringly smitten with NYC, I had the urge to experience that city covered deeply in white. Alas, regardless of the lack of new fallen snow in Chicago, January in the Midwest, provides a sky that matches the frozen snow that still covers surfaces of the ground paired with winds of great chill.  Although the sidewalks were clear warning signs of falling ice from the towering buildings overhead were displayed throughout the city. Life in the Midwest City of Chicago.  The “Windy City”. Onward, once again, from behind the lens…

And of the windows of fashion? Constantly revolving or minutely tweaked to showcase changes that follow the seasons taste.  The windows and artistry presented, for all of those passerby’s and gawkers, always seem to inspire. Scenes set before us that certainly deserve the visual acknowledgment and mere appreciation.  Perhaps also the mere need to focus upon another changing season ahead.  Winter we are immersed within.  But with Winter’s eventual passing, Spring certainly is ahead…and with it, fashion’s change is also ahead. Yet a visual appreciation of its beckoning in January, from behind Chicago’s windows of Fashion, also awaits….

Consider the windows of fashion. Appreciation of the changing world that offers a constant in enduring classics as well as the edge of fashion. As life evolves, we evolve and fashion certainly follows. Yet appreciation of the artistry of window display is worthy of a pause….with the click of the shutter from behind my lens, always.

Onward,

Kristin

PS:  Part of the visual of fashion’s settings behind the windows of merchandising are the reflections of the city scenes that the windows look out upon.  Part of the appeal, in my mind.  A moment in time.  A setting paired against constant change and movement.  City life and structures.  Captured. In a moment of time.  Onward in that….
