Ambient Glow: The Visual Appeal & Warmth Of Interior Lighting

The Warm Glow Of Interior Lamplight
The Warm Glow Of Interior Lamplight

There is something about lighting that adds such warmth and visual appeal to interior spaces. Perhaps there is no other time than the onset of Autumn, when the skies darken early and the chill settles in, when lighting takes a crucial role within our homes. The power of lighting. For certain, as a key element within our interiors, lighting can alter our moods. The beauty of natural daylight that moves to the need to add lighting when the sun begins its descent is where ambiance begins…

Ambiance: The Visual Glow Of Interior Lamp Lighting
Ambiance: The Visual Glow Of Interior Lamp Lighting

While a room may be bathed in daylight by day, the lamp itself offers a decoration of the interior space itself. Form paired with function by dusk or by night. But of the ambient lighting that should light the corners of our spaces with a warm glow? That should spill forward onto our tables and cast a glow above the lamp shade itself? Essential when creating surrounds. A basic in decoration, yes. But a basic in creating the visual warmth of our interior spaces. Glowing shades of visual interest. The effects it creates is a love affair with light itself. Transformation into a captivating surround. The visual changes each room takes on when lighting casts its glow and the character and atmosphere the space offers…worthy of visual appreciation, indeed…

Of course, acknowledging the form of lighting within our spaces is also key. Personal preference in the selection of style, size and function. The world of lighting offers a world of choices that can be tailored to our own interior styles. Options. Beyond purpose and function, the lamp itself is part of the decor. Part of the impact of a space. Part of the visual appeal. But focussing on the ambiance of lighting…which can dramatic appeal and alter the mood of a room while simultaneously adding visual warmth is the focus. Beyond brightening up a dark corner, lighting can dramatically change the look and feel of a room. And what a delight that can be! Of course, I must mention the asset of adjusting the brightness levels of lighting with a dimmer switch or 3-way bulbs. My personal favorite. As each moment deserves the ambiance that is required within the moment. Purpose and function. Of course, as in the art of photography, lighting plays a key role in creating a visual. Diffused and reflective, lamp lighting offers us the ability to alter our surrounds. Diffused lighting is light that is not harsh and direct, but rather softened lighting. Reflected light is the light that is reflected from a particular surface or material. Visual appeal, indeed. Consider the visual appeal of reflective and diffused lighting within the interior as well as the form and function of lighting….

And of the importance of task lighting? The beam of light that is directed on a surface highlighting an area that one works under is an important consideration when considering lighting’s form and function. Localized lighting to suit the task at hand. In stylish format, if you will…

Whether you prefer to light up a room or set a subdued scene with the glow and casts of table and task lighting, the choice is preferential. Subdued or intense. Yet the appreciation of the diffused glow of lighting deserves our consideration. As the Autumn sun fades into Winter, consider the glow within your interior spaces. Ambiance. Warmth of visual appeal, indeed….

Elements Of Historic Architectural Splendor, Charm & Elegance: Charleston, South Carolina

Historic Splendor & Visual Delights: Charleston, South Carolina
Historic Splendor & Visual Delights: Charleston, South Carolina

The visual splendor of Charleston, South Carolina…
Having visited Charleston during the early Spring blooms of March, my eyes spanned every angle in awe. From behind the lens there were very few moments in which I was not photographing the elements of Charleston that surrounded me. Compositions that beckoned to be captured at nearly every turn. Alas, in the world of digital photography, the options to continue clicking allowed me to capture well over 2,000 images. Should I have admitted this? A visual love of a city resulted in mass images. Although my mantra follows the “Less is more” principle, from behind the lens of a camera, when immersed within a city layered with history, exquisitely preserved architectural wonders, Antebellum mansions off the coastal shores, decorative iron work balconies and gates, gas lamp lighting, confection colored buildings with shutters and window boxes, trees dripping with Spanish Moss, palm trees and rustling Palmettos blowing in the Southern breeze paired with a skyline dotted with church steeples, it was no surprise to me that the number of images I captured were vast. Wonderstruck, for certain.

Founded during the 1600’s, Charleston is surrounded by the Ashley River and the Cooper River, off the Atlantic Ocean. Within the Carolina “Low Country”, English colonists settled Charleston during the 1680’s. At that time an urban development plan was established, called the “Grand Model”, which was an orderly grid of streets. For certain, I easily wandered these streets in amazement at the striking structures that lined the cobblestone streets and blue slate sidewalks. Charleston’s history began with crops grown on inland plantations of rice, tobacco, indigo and cotton. By late 1700, Charleston was the largest port in the America, behind New York, Boston and Philadelphia. With the successes of exportation, it is perhaps no surprise that the plantation owners and shipping magnates would build substantial three & four story mansions with distinctive verandas and ironwork. In 1783 Charleston adopted an ethical city motto: “She guards her customs, buildings and laws”. For certain, Charleston has preserved all of those. A city known for its survival and endurance, it is interesting to note that Charleston’s historied past includes being “raided by pirates, besieged by the British and burned to the ground during the Civil War, demolished by an earthquake and flooded by hurricanes”. Onward, indeed.

Known for some of the oldest landscaped gardens in America, this sophisticated city oozes with traditional Southern hospitality and charm. Coastal breezes off the shoreline brought added delight as I strolled through the streets. Horse drawn carriages covered with surrey’s pulled by Percheron draft horses brought back the period of a bygone era. Turn after turn, structures that were a visual tribute to the classical grandeur of historical decadence awaited my lens. From the verandas supported by columns, dripping with ferns, with ceilings painted sky blue to the pink-hued Bermuda stone, gambrel roofs, cornices, double staircases and iconic Charleston Single Houses (one room wide & deep with a single entrance door facing the street and and opening onto a porch that runs the length of the house and often 3 stories high), the visual entrancement that Charleston holds is stunning. From the decorative earthquake bolt covers embedded on the historic structures to the graceful palmettos that sway in the Southern breezes, the heart and soul of historic Charleston swells with attributes of an historic European city. From the iconic pastel hued “Rainbow Row” of buildings on East Bay Street, to the harbor and its historical link to the nearby Ft. Sumpter on Sullivan Island where the first shot of the Civil War took place, the historical importance of Charleston endures. Every turn offers history and architectural jewels on display. It has been stated that those that travel to this Grand Dame city can easily become seduced by her offerings. From behind the lens, I was clearly seduced. To edit through the multitude of images that I captured? Daunting. It is my hope that the images presented provide a mere feel of the beauty, elegance and historical, architectural importance of the stunning, jeweled Southern city of Charleston, South Carolina….

Consider the architectural appeal and historic charm that Charleston offers. The history that layers this city laden with mossy surfaces is evident. The lush fronds of Palmetto’s & other greens offer pure delight. For certain, the city of Charleston is always flowering. What is also certain is that the historical structures will remain unchanged, protected by historical preservation, “Mother Nature” permitting. This American Southern city of distinction is a place where charms dwell, offering a soul stirring pull at the heartstrings for those that travel here. Memorable. The “Genteel Surrounds” that swirl around oneself while strolling along the historic district of the French Quarter and elegant streets of downtown Charleston will remain unforgettable.

The compilations presented are not necessarily visuals of streets, but rather, elements of the iconic details that represent Charleston. Aside from the sweet fragrances and breezes that only one’s mind can imagine, the visuals on display are there for all to appreciate. Gifts that Charleston holds enduringly. The pastel hues of jeweled and stunning architecture are mesmerizing. The visuals are more than what one camera can capture. Charleston will always remain as one of my favorite American cities. Appreciation from behind the lens, indeed…

Tiered Elegance: Vintage French “Baguès” Gilt Bronze “Palm Frond” Chandeliers dripping in Crystal Prisms

Glamour & Elegance Of French Distinction: The "Palm Frond" Chandelier
Glamour & Elegance Of French Distinction: The “Palm Frond” Chandelier

The mesmerizing and elegant “gilded” bronze “Palm Frond” chandeliers. Stunning. I have been smitten with them ever since I fell under the spell of their distinctive beauty hanging within the home of a close friend who possesses a flair for vintage details and French embellishments. Craig, this one is for you. Upon the initial moment of sight the impact was immediate. Years later, on a trip to New Orleans, Louisiana, I rediscovered this French emblem of high style hanging from within the French Quarter antique stores that hold French history. Spotting these dangling above me with luring appeal furthered my desire to learn more about these objects of fascination. Seeking the history of this “emblem of French savoir-faire” offered minimal visual images of interiors that included this particular gilded beauty. Alas, a return to the home that began my love affair with these lighted objects dripping in crystals was in order. Interspersed among the compilations presented are the photographic images from behind my lens of his elegant chandeliers of bronze and crystal bliss…

Maison Baguès: French Creator Of Art Lighting
Maison Baguès: French Creator Of Art Lighting

Seeking the history of an object of grand ornamentation leads one to the French Maison Baguès located in the center of Paris. Originating in 1840 Maison Baguès would become known as the the creators of luxury lighting (www.bagues-paris.com). Originally founded in Auvergne and specializing in liturgical bronze a shift to lighting would become the focus with the arrival of electricity. In 1880 Eugene Baguès introduced bronze light fixtures of distinctive styles cast in bronze and dripping with crystals. The birth of beauty, indeed. And of the art of lighting that would evolve? During the 1920’s, sons Victor Baguès and Robert Baguès “enlarged the bronze lighting collection of their father and created their own iron models”. The vast range of “Baguès” included the use of parrots & foliage chandeliers as well as wall sconces. Alas, the “palm frond” chandelier! Iron and bronze, shaped with traditional methods, offered chandeliers that were covered in leaf gilt gold (or silver leaf!) with hand assembled crystals. The appeal of these striking lighting embellishments would extend internationally and offices were soon opened in New York, Rome and Cairo. Of note, during the Great Depression, Maison Baguès fell under the control of bankers. In 1957 Victor’s son, Jean-Pierre, bought back the company and revived the collection while introducing new elements of artful lighting. Alas, French craftsmanship paired with heritage endures!

Today, Maison Baguès is situated under the Viaduct des Arts in Paris and continues to preserve its heritage by devoting itself to the restoration of vintage pieces as well as providing new creations by current well known designers. Perhaps it is no surprise that Maison Baguès has earned the description as “A synonym of elegance and a guarantee of excellence” . “Elegance” and “Excellence”, indeed. Heritage that endures.

As with anything of enduring appeal, the vintage “palm frond” chandelier would experience an international appeal and a revival during the 1930’s and beyond. Beautiful Italian versions would soon grace striking interiors. Perhaps it is the appeal of the heavy, solid bronze frame that offers a warm patina paired with elegant crystal prisms that brings a timeless essence to this lighted delight. The chandelier of palm fronds and crystal is also noted as an element of the “Hollywood Regency” period, which was born from the appeal of the “larger than life” Hollywood movie set design during the golden age of filmmaking.

The Hollywood Regency period (1930’s) brought the glamour and glitz that was so befitting to include the glamorous solid bronze tassel frame with palm fronds dripping with crystal. Tiers of molded palm fronds with cut crystals and bulbs of light. Befitting in “Art Deco”(1920’s-1940’3) interiors or any interior that demands a focal point of unique and striking elegance, the beauty of these chandeliers transform visually by day and night. Stunning. And I am eternally smitten…

Glowing Beauty: Lee Rhodes & Her Gift Of The Hand-Blown “glassybaby”

Lee Rhodes/"glassybaby"
Lee Rhodes/”glassybaby”

The allure of “glassybaby”. A glow of warmth and inviting appeal. What is a “glassybaby”? Beyond its description as a “small, colored glass cup, candleholder or vase”, a “glassybaby” is truly an elegant hand made vessel of stunning color that holds the glow of candlelight. Oh, the simplicity and glowing beauty with a tea light that it holds. A handmade colorful glass votive holder that offers choices of over four hundred stunning colors with which to personally fill your spaces with coordinating glow to your interior display. I will personally add, there is simply nothing quite like the glow of a glassybaby. It is an experience that will lure you. A rainbow of choices for flames to dance within the elegance of a light reflecting colorful glow

Hand-Blown Colored Glass: "glassybaby"
Hand-Blown Colored Glass: “glassybaby”

Perhaps an brief understanding of the reason behind the creation of this quiet luxury is in order to further appreciation if your interest is piqued….

Based in Seattle, Washington, “glassybaby” was founded by an award winning entrepreneur, Lee Rhodes. A private company with a philanthropic purpose. A quiet luxury with a cause. The cause? In 1995, at the age of 32, the mother of three battled a third round of a rare form of lung cancer. Having given her husband, Emery Rhodes, lessons in glass blowing in the past, Emery created small glass “cups” or “baby glasses” to comfort his wife. Lee would light these glass objects with tea light candles to seek comfort during the difficulty of her cancer treatments. The gift of this small glass vessel produced a life changing opportunity. Rhodes recollections of patients in chemo waiting rooms that struggled to pay basic needs during treatment offered an opportunity to help. In 1998, Rhodes hired local glassblowers and began selling these vessels of molten glass from her garage. The company was officially founded in 2001 with a new glassblowing studio set up in Seattle in 2003. Her mission and intent? Spreading hope while giving back a portion of sales for cancer patients. Rhode’s message has been described as “Perserverance and strength through light”. Indeed, she has succeeded and continues to give the gift of hope. As Rhodes terms it, “Candles for a cause”

“I feel joy that we created something that touches so many people”- Lee Rhodes

“glassybaby allows people to take that 30 seconds of peace and calm to find healing”- Lee Rhodes

Beyond Rhodes appearance in 2008 on Martha Stewart’s television show and the countless accolades of merit the company and Lee Rhodes would obtain, it is her gift of hope that endures to gain attention. By 2011 glassybaby had donated more than $600,000 to various charities, following Rhodes goal to donate 10% of all sales to charities helping cancer patients with costs during chemotherapy. glassybaby has since surpassed its one million donation goal to charities across the country and aims to reach “one million more”. Imagine! Quite an intent of hope. Beauty paired with giving.

“The more glassbaby grows, the more money we will give away”- Lee Rhodes

The original glassybaby is a glass votive, roughly 2.5″ in diameter and 3.75″ tall. Given the fact that each is handmade, variations of distinction certainly are bestowed to each vessel of hope. Of interest, to produce one glassybaby is said to take approximately 12-14 minutes by a team of glass artists. Quality in craftsmanship, indeed. The “team” that create these glowing vessels comprise of over 70 artisans. Four artisans and three layers of glass per glassybaby. Imagine. That said, beyond a molten ball of glass on a blowpipe, consider the time, the energy and artful talent of glassblowing that each vessel holds. The beauty of an art form. Beyond the skill and time taken in the creation, it is interesting to note that the European color rods used (which are lead free) are said to be derived from elements of nature, the “recipes” of some of which are stated to have endured for centuries. History and the colorful glow of an art form.

Lee Rhodes/glassybaby & I
November 2013

In November of 2013, I had the pleasure of meeting Lee Rhodes. Her appearance in our quaint, Northern Illinois town of Woodstock was part of the Woodstock Fine Arts Association’s, Creative Living Series at the historic Woodstock Opera House. Of note, Lee was part of the same series and stood on the same stage that Martha Stewart once stood and presented. History. At the time Lee Rhodes presentation took place we were celebrating our 50th year of a series of inspiring and acclaimed speakers. Another iconic moment for our series, indeed. Her story was expressed so simply and naturally. Sincerity. Warmth filled the air as we journeyed with her through her shared story of hope. Afterwards, the delighted audience gathered closely around her and the amassed collection of her glowing vessels. As a board member of the Woodstock Fine Arts Association, I had the pleasure and the opportunity to meet her and personally express my gratitude for her gift and my adoration for the hand blown vessel I had discovered years prior (And of my newest addition? deep lipstick red in color, of course!). But I must express the genuine joy and sincerity that glows from within Lee Rhodes and spills outward for all who surround her. Pure joy. Upon meeting her and directly experiencing her spirit of hope and joy of life, the impact and my appreciation of her glassbaby’s have deepened. Her joy and effervescence of life is within my interior when I light my vessels of hand blown beauty. Is there any better gift with our lives than to touch others with love? A flame that will endure. Indeed, the new tagline for these vessels of glowing beauty is just that: “glassybaby Forever”. For certain, it is also perfectly quoted as “One Of A Kindness”. Indeed.

“A year in color”. A visual journey of color inspirations…

Color is defined as “That aspect of things that is caused by differing qualities of the light reflected or emitted by them, definable in terms of the observer or of the light.” For certain, the world of color is an inspiration of possibilities within our interiors. Whether you live within the wonder of bold and distinctive hues or muted shades of appealing allure, the choice is certainly yours. Choosing to fill your spaces with colors that bring joy to you and define you and your personal sense of style is paramount. Whether white or vivid and bold red, the choice is personal. Yet an appreciation of all colors is also paramount…

Sconces: Wall Mounted Lighting Of Distinctive Style

Wall Mounted Style: Sconces
Wall Mounted Style: Sconces

Wall-Mounted ambiance. A “Sconce” is defined as “a type of light fixture affixed to a wall in such a way that it uses only the wall for support and the light is usually directed upwards”. Lighting without a base on the ground that provides an inviting glow that cascades onto the wall itself and the surrounds within the interior. Visual interest paired with function. “Sconces” are also defined as “a bracket candlestick or group of candlesticks or an electric light fixture patterned on a candle sconce”. A decorative wall bracket for holding candles or lights of distinctive style…

The first known use of the word “Sconce” was during the 15th century. Of note, the Dutch word “Schans” was taken from the German word “Schanze”. The word “Sconce” is taken from Middle English, or Old French “Esconse” which referred to “Screened candle or lantern” and from “Escunser” (to hide/obscure). Derived from the Medieval Latin word “scnsa” taken from Latin Absconsus. Further, “Abscnsa” and “Abscondere” (To hide away) and “Condere” (to preserve). What has been preserved is the timelessness that wall mounted sconce lighting has offered throughout the history of interior design. A lantern, perhaps, but one that is not hidden but distinctively on display as a key aspect of designing within the interior. Distinction, for certain.

Of additional interest, sconces are considered one of the earliest forms of lighting fixtures. First appearing in classical antiquity, the evolution from candles to wall mounted lighting of electrical illumination would result. Of course, along with evolution of a practical, useful element into a more decorative form of design, carvers and gilders would design sconces that were influenced by the style of the rooms they would embellish. Whether it was the gilded and elaborate Rococo or more classical shapes of form, the sconces that would decorate walls with function and style endure as timeless elements of interior design

A visual frame for the eyes to rest upon. Sconces certainly provide a visually warm, inviting atmosphere to an interior. Lighting up a darker area of a room or adding additional lighting to a well-lit space, the illumination and addition of the wall sconce is striking in any setting. Interior Color Inspirations: The Bold & Dramatic Statement Of Black Painted Walls

Distinction With Painted Walls: The Bold Backdrop Of Black Painted Walls
Distinction With Painted Walls: The Bold Backdrop Of Black Painted Walls

The black painted wall. Positively bewitching. The color black seems to cast a spell of delight for the senses. “Black Magic”, indeed. A striking backdrop of bold distinction with attitude coated fearlessly on our walls. Although stated to be a trend in recent years, I challenge that positioning. The bold impact of black is certain to remain, presenting the case for bold impact of elegance and drama. A classic? I state the case. Fearless impact with saturated color. For certain, a fearless attitude comes forth when one contemplates coating walls with the hue that perhaps causes one to ponder the depth that ebony black presents. Bold contrast of a stunning hue within our interiors. Black as night delight

The word “Black” comes from the Old English word “Blaec”(“black”, “dark” and “ink”), from the Proto-Germanic word “Blakkez” (“burned”), the Proto-Indo-European word “Bhleg” (“to burn, gleam, shine, flash”) and “Bhel” (“to shine”) related to Old Saxon “Blak” (“Ink”). In addition, the word black was referenced with the Ancient Greek word “Phlegein” (“To burn, scorch”) and the Ancient Roman word “Ater” for flat, dull black and “Niger” for brilliant, saturated black. Color hues of depth and richness delineated. In Old High German, “Blach” referenced the word “Black”. Alas, the term that finally adheres to the depth and saturation of the color of night. One of the first colors used by artists in Neolithic cave paintings, black is the darkest color in the color spectrum. Yet, an absence of color. The result of the absence of light or the complete absorption of light. The very opposite of white, black is the very representation of darkness in contrast to light.

Although the associations to the color black are diverse throughout history, perhaps it is sufficient to simply acknowledge the visual and magical power when this hue is coated within the interior. Bold impact with elegance. Unexpected drama, perhaps. For certain, lighting is key when considering the darkening allure of black. Alas, the art of designing the interior. However it is found within the interior, whether in glossy black or flat matte black, the bold confidence with which it is chosen is paired with fearlessness and striking style

Lightweight & Airy Style: The Appeal of “Paper Lanterns”

Celebrations With Airy Style: The Appeal Of Paper Lanterns
Celebrations With Airy Style: The Appeal Of Paper Lanterns

The appeal of lightweight style. The airy paper lantern. Although found in almost every imaginable shape and size of airy delight, it is the simplistic, round paper lantern that my attention falls upon. Alas, truth be told, it is the elegance of the pure white delight of a white paper lantern that truly delights me with its simplicity. But oh, the additions of the lovely rainbow of vibrant, pastel and muted colors! Certainly limitless is adorning spaces or events. Although perhaps more of a temporary decoration due to its delicate nature, these round paper lanterns are sure to coordinate with any themed event or style preferences. Perhaps it is the temporariness of the lantern itself that strikes us. A temporary luxury of lofty style. Paper lanterns seem to provide a defining elegance of simplicity. And of the paper lantern lighting that creates a warm, soft glow? Quite a sight to behold when massed together and illuminated. Aglow with style. Stunning evening decor worthy of any celebration, indeed…

The history of creating lanterns began in China in 230 BC. Initially the lanterns, first referred to as “Sky Lanterns” or “Sky Candles”, were not used for decorative purposes but rather for military aid purposes as a “communication medium on the battlefield”. Who knew? The lantern has since evolved as an key accessory for not only Asian cultural practices, celebrations and festivals (such as the “New Year”, “Mid Autumnal Festival” and the “Lantern Festival”/Yuen Siu Festival) but have also been held as symbols of joy, hope, fortune, good wishes and longevity. Historically, airborne paper lanterns, released into the night sky for aesthetic effect carried with them the belief that they would carry messages to the gods. Again, who knew? In fact, these lanterns were hung inside and around homes to ward off evil spirits. Lofty responsibility for these lanterns of atmospheric style. In ancient times, these hanging lanterns were often plain and simple. Yet during the Tang Dynasty (A.D. 618 to A.D. 907) an emperor is said to have commissioned the construction of 30 enormous lantern towers, each 1,500 feet high. Imagine! Said to have been bedecked with jade and jems, the replication of such elaborate lanterns would prove difficult to the people, thus the lantern tradition eventually took hold in the form of transparent paper on thin silk. And of the lantern that preceded the lightweight paper lantern? During the 16th and 17th century, merchant ships from America and Europe brought silk to the Far East, enabling the rise of the silk hanging lantern. Perhaps, in time, the cost of silk brought forth the embellishment of tough paper that covered the frames of collapsible bamboo or metal frame hoops. Of note, in China, paper lanterns are classified into distinctive classes. Of the classic, round mid-sized lantern that beckons me, it is classified as the “Tomato Light” or “Big Red”. Indeed, perhaps the distinction of the red, bold lantern is eternally linked to the Asian world. For the global world, however, the Chinese paper lantern as decoration is enduring, no matter the color…

Lightweight style and perhaps unexpected whimsy. For certain, paper lanterns are a unique and unexpected decoration in an interior setting that will certainly liven a space with interest. A visual expression that is elegant and simplistic but presents an impactful style. Appealing and airy style. Airy delight of lofty style, indeed…

“Crowned” Magnificence: The French Empire Crystal Chandelier

The French Empire Chandelier

The elegance and grandeur of the French Empire crystal chandelier provides a stunning magnificence wherever it is suspended with its graceful yet complex beauty. The classic French form is not only a decorative ornamentation in “gilded” golden brass or wrought iron components paired with beaded crystal and finial of icicle drops, but the light fixture itself is enduring glamour that becomes a focal point of opulence.

French chandeliers are made of brass or iron that is carefully crafted to curve, framing the light they bestow. Whereas other chandeliers utilize chains that make up the body of the fixture, French chandeliers are described as appearing as “A bouquet with iron stems spreading out to expose the light bulbs”. Although the number of light bulbs vary, there are typically six or more. Radiance, indeed.

The history of the French Empire style chandelier begins in Medieval France, were chandeliers were constructed of iron and held candles for lighting. It was during 17th century France were these chandeliers were transformed into lavish decorations for royals and kings, such as Louis XIV. Of course! Dripping in crystal beads, the addition of flowers or detailed castings, these exquisite Empire Chandeliers showcase the fine historical craftsmanship from the era in which its dazzling form was crafted. Of interest, the French Empire chandelier with its emphasized brass or wrought iron component differs from the English chandeliers, designed with multiple glass drops. During the 18th and 19th centuries, the French Empire chandelier were manufactured in diverse sizes to fit a multitude of spaces that demanded its brilliance. It is no wonder its demand was high! A splendid array of elegance was a requirement, for certain. Popular in literature and masses of historical buildings, the French Empire chandelier is a recognizable and distinctive style. Oh, an ode to the infamous “Phantom Of The Opera” and the opulent chandelier that symbolically bore the phantom’s wrath. Certainly the crashing chandelier scene in the Paris Opera House climaxes the performance. Opulence of distinction paired with elegant drama…
