Fashion & the city. Entwined. Architecture and the city. City scenes and fashionable luring windows endure to bring appreciation from behind my lens. An ongoing attempt at capturing the essence of fashion’s change in a structural world of distinctive architectural details. A love affair, indeed…

Appreciate the details that surround you. Looking closer, looking upward you will find details of beauty. And from behind the thick glass panes of fashion’s changing stage? Inspiration and appreciation of fashion’s whimsy and artful displays of style will loose you, if but for a moment, into the timeless and often fantasy world of fashion.
Breton Stripes At Max Mara
One side note…On this day, March 31, 2018, Jcrew has deemed it to be International Stripes Day. Befitting that the image below finds me in Jcrew stripes. Breton Stripes forever!
So it was February. Fashion and the city. Intertwined. As fleeting as time is, the changing windows of fashion move at the speed of the city streets. Constant. To see the world of fashion behind the windows of a city is to see the city itself that these representations of style dwell within. From behind the lens, once again, my shift has changed to add the details of the city and street scenes paired with fashionable style…

Consider the city surrounds and the fashionable representations therein. City life is certainly a mix of energy and fantasy. Look closer. Look upward. Appreciation for the visuals and details that surround will only bring gratitude for the very gift that each day brings. Alas, I will never tire of saying it…“Every day is a gift”.
City love and fashionable love, Onward,

The Photographer…
PS: Perhaps capturing myself in my own way is documenting personal change. Internal change in recollection of a moment captured. Time and place. With change comes growth. Onward into change. There is freedom in that, indeed.
Chicago in September. What was a warmer than usual September day on the city streets of Chicago, the Autumnal inspirations were evident. The city was launching into a fashionably forward Autumn. The tops of trees that held just a tinge of Autumnal change off the Chicago River led me to my monthly jaunt in search of fashion’s changing windows. Yet it seems that the lens of my camera pointed at less windows than usual. Perhaps the pending change of season’s brings forth a change within me and what truly inspires me. Change is good. Fashion is everywhere, but there are some months that I seek for greater inspiration than I find. Alas, less is more. A mantra that I follow, indeed.
And sometimes a moment, while in the whirl of the city life that envelopes you, is needed to focus on the details of a city. Simple park benches off the Magnificent Mile. City scenes to take in, for certain…

Chicago in May. The apparent arrival of Spring into Summer, indeed. May brings with it the blooms of floral bliss and the energy that warmer weather brings. Especially in the Windy City of Chicago. Appreciation. River life awakens on the Chicago River, Lake breezes waft onto Michigan Avenue and fashionable visuals of warmer days ahead are presented. Inspiring, indeed. That is a constant. City life, onward…
Chicago In May…
Change is constant. Yet consistent is my commitment to capturing the fashionable forms from behind the glass panes of fashion merchandising. Visual merchandising to inspire. And so, yet again, a compilation from behind my lens of Chicago’s fashionable forms. To add to that, for me it is perhaps a love affair with the very art form of fashion: the mannequin itself. Oh, for the love of visual appeal. Escape and travel with me on the journey of capturing moments. Fashionable moments in time…

City Scenes from behind the lens of my camera. Onward into a New Year of photographing the city I adore and the fashionable windows that line its streets. Fashion photography. Mannequins and the world of visual merchandising. Yes, another year. The first month of my fourth full year of photographing the fashionable visuals that change before us on the city streets of Chicago. Constant change. Constant inspiration.
January In Chicago: The Cityscape By The Chicago River
January found me, not surprisingly, walking briskly through the city streets that carried the full force of the Lake breezes. The Windy City, indeed. Coffee and more coffee. For the photographer, when one desires to capture and image, the cold temperatures does not stop the shutter from clicking. However, the need to warm up is always present. For the love of a city and its coffee shops from which to watch the vast world of passerby’s. All with a direction. All with a purpose. City love, indeed. On yet another gray day in the city of Chicago, there was bright and vivid visual appeal behind fashion’s windows. There were inspiring statements that moved me were boldly printed on the windows of Ralph Lauren. The scene was set, my camera was ready, and a compilation awaits of the fashionable windows of Chicago in January….
Ralph Lauren: Iconic Windows & Iconic Words
From the words of Ralph Lauren…how true a statement. Timelessness always exudes from behind the expansive windows of Ralph Lauren on Michigan Avenue and beyond. That very quote I adhere to in my own perspective. Fashion and trends change, but to hold to a timelessness of style…that therein is a personal goal of mine…

Consider once again, in appreciation, the fashionable windows that are before you. The art of visual merchandising can certainly inspire. Whether it is a glance as one passes by or to take in and pause before the large windows of fashion, inspiration and mere energy can perhaps be gained. For one who loves fashion and the art of presenting its form to the world, onward in capturing the year 2017 from behind the lens. Chicago fashion, onward.
Onward,
Kristin

Fashionable Windows & The City Scene: Max Mara/Chicago
A year of the fashionable windows of Max Mara from behind my lens. Chicago. The Magnificent Mile. Michigan Avenue and the stylish and changing windows of fashion. Max Mara style. For one who over the last 3+ years has photographed every month the fashionable windows of Chicago, Max Mara stands out to be one of the highlights from behind my lens. Striking mannequins posed in changing Max Mara style. Sheer delight for one who loves fashion. Above fashion itself, Max Mara, located on the corner of E. Delaware and Michigan Avenue, offers windows that are key in reflecting the city that I love. Look closer and you will see the distinctive architecture of the John Hancock Building and the iconic silhouette of the Fourth Presbyterian Church. A look back at a compilation of images I have shared on this blog in my City Inspirations of Chicago over the year…

For The Love Of Fashion & A City Reflected: Max Mara 2016/Chicago
Chicago. Perhaps it can be said that a city in Autumn holds magical appeal. Yet like New York City, Chicago maintains appeal no matter the season. Seasonless. The great winds aside, I am continually lured to this city. Always with a fashionable intent and always with an architectural intent. Visual appreciation. Marry them together and I find continual delight. On a day that was unseasonably moderate, leaves had begun to turn colors and breezes blew that carried me onward with my camera in hand. Continually seeking inspiration and continually finding it within the city streets and behind the thick glass panes of fashion’s windows. Yes, fashion. And a nod to the iconic architecture and riverway that meanders through this great city off Lake Michigan. Never do I tire of the scene set before me. Energized by it enduringly.
Typically my trek by train to the great Windy City finds me amidst the crowds of passerby’s on the concrete pavement of the city streets. Each with a unique destination. This trip, however, brought me to viewpoints from high above Michigan Avenue and beyond. Thus, a visual nod to the stunning view below. Chicago delights, indeed…

Of course, fashion is found on the city streets. Visuals of fashion’s advertisement statements add to the city scene. Always changing like the seasons…

And of the windows of fashion in October? A mixed myriad of Autumnal inspiration, for certain. Layershave made their way to the mannequins that line the city streets. Fashionable proclamations of cooler temperatures ahead. So, in appreciation of the artistry of the windows set before us, a collection of images from behind my lens awaits…fashionable appeal, indeed….

Lastly, the October sunset over Chicago…from behind my lens… City Love, Onward.
Chicago. On a day that was unusually cooler, given a recent streak of high temperatures, I boarded the train for the Windy City of Chicago. My monthly visual quest for fashionable inspiration. The Fall-like weather that settled in paired with the layer of clouds that hung overhead (which would soon disperse)and certainly brought forth further Fall Fashion excitement. August. The end of Summer and the slow progression towards layers with cooler days and nights that are ahead. And so it was. Another journey to the fashionable streets of Chicago. Camera in hand. From State Street to Michigan Avenue to Oak Street & the Gold Coast. Fashion’s changing force visually presented. Inspiration abounds for those that seek visual appreciation and for those that seek fashionable impulse. Fashion’s appreciation, indeed.
Yet beyond the display that awaits behind the glass panes of fashion is a visual appreciation of the city that surrounds. Chicago and its architecturecontinue to remain a draw from behind the lens of my camera…Appreciation of a city, indeed….

“Selfie”: Reflections Off Fashion’s Windows In Chicago
Chicago in July. Fashion’s appeal reigned amidst the wave of heat that blasted upon those of us that ventured out onto the city streets. With a heat index of 105 degrees, I ventured from the train onto the streets of Chicago with enthusiasm (paired with several venti iced coffee’s in which the ice melted in minutes). City love awaited and fashionable inspiration beckoned me from behind my lens. Capturing the Summertime fashionable appeal paired with pre-Fall proclamations from the windows of fashion merchandising was my goal. For those that follow these monthly fashionable posts of Chicago, perhaps you have come to expect its arrival onto the pages of this blog. A constant for me. As fashion is always changing and the seasons along with it, one constant is my appreciation for the artistry presented behind the heavy glass panes of fashion . Changing appeal with seasonal inspirations. On the cusp of Autumnal impact in fashion, it is my hope to provide a visual appreciation of the fashion that awaited…from behind my lens….
Of course, a view of this stellar city (albeit, from my iPhone)….

Another year from behind the lens…
Another year of fashionable appeal of the timeless, ever changing world of fashion and its whimsy appeal brought forth by the intriguing and inspiring world of window display. Fashion window display. Although a retrospect of the year in photographs and compilations is not new to me (for I have ventured into the city of Chicago, with the sole purpose of photographing fashion’s changing settings, for two years now) the year 2015 in fashion deserves a visual review. Prior to the fashionable windows of 2014 it was a yearly visual appreciation of city inspirations. My love for the city has not paled. Yet my appreciation for the windows of fashion has deepened. Always have I been lured to the windows that mesmerize. Windows that flaunt a visual. Whether in elegant simplicity or in flamboyant and colorful display, fashion beckons me. From behind the lens, I have aimed my lens to capture the essence of the changing fashionable scene. Within the compilations I have sought to express the magic and changing world therein. Behind the lens. Behind the windows of fashion.
For those that wish to take a closer look at the photographic compilations beyond what is presented here, of each month of city scenes behind the windows of fashion, merely search “City Inspirations”. The compilations of a month-by-month visual will hopefully provide you with fashionable inspiration and appreciation throughout the year wherever you reside.
Of course, a closer view at a mere representation of each month …

May you be inspired to look closer to the fashionable surrounds that exist around you. For me it is a continual visual of appreciation of the artistry and the magic of fashion merchandising and the evolution of fashion’s change. Inspiring, indeed. I will continue my photographic quest to share the fashionable inspiration from the windows of fashion. Chicago and beyond.
And as for the New Year ahead that awaits us? Perhaps the words I stated in 2014 deserve repeating:
“Edit and frame your view. Life is constantly moving forward. Move with it with appreciation. Focus on what surrounds you. May your eyes be wide and your interest piqued….always.” -Kristin
