Ode To A Queen: The Adornment Of The Flag Of The United Kingdom

Queen Elizabeth II: Coronation, June 1952 & Diamond Jubilee, June 2012

2012 marks 60 years of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, her Diamond Jubilee. The celebrations are well underway throughout the United Kingdom, coming to a majestic finale tomorrow (June 2nd-June 5th, 2012). The Queen’s attainment of the throne on February 6, 1952 and her coronation as a Queen took place on June 2, 1952. Interestingly, the only other British monarch to celebrate a Diamond Jubilee was Queen Victoria in 1897.

Ode To The Queen: In Celebration Of Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee…

In honor of this memorable moment in British History, a look at the adornment of the flag of the United Kingdom in interiors and fashion. An ode to a Queen and an ode to the flag, also known as the “Union Jack”, the national flag of the United Kingdom, symbolizing the administrative union of the countries of the UK. To give a royal nod to those with British roots, inspired interiors and inspired fashion styles that incorporate this grand flag…

British Flag Style In Interiors
Fashion Inspirations: The “Union Jack”

Alas, a bit of the history of this grand flag…
The iconic flag of The United Kingdom has a history woven within its pattern…a pattern that includes the historical inclusion of three Kingdom’s countries all united under one Sovereign- England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Of note, since Wales was not a Kingdom but a Principality, it could not be included on the flag. I was so inspired to share the visual adaptation of change the flag of the United Kingdom has taken on through history, that I re-compiled the visual taken from the website projectbritain.com. A royal blend of unity, indeed. Who knew?

Cheers to the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II and to the flag of the United Kingdom that encompasses her royalty…
